It's a boy!
So we went for our third ultrasound today... All the findings were good and I decided not to do the amnio. I figure I'll talk to my OB first and if she thinks I still should do the amnio after today's results, then I'll do it. The NT was normal and totally under the top percentile as it had been during my 12 week ultrasound... The doc said that with what they saw on the ultrasound and my AFP results, I had a 1:1500 chance of having a down's baby. Now that means nothing to me - is it high or low? She assured me that was a good ratio and less risk than doing an amnio. She compared me to having the level of risk as a 16 yr old. I'm assuming she didn't just say that to make me feel better, but it did.
When the sonographer finally told us it was a boy, Freddie did not believe her. He wanted to see the goods! Monster Kwan was not cooperating with the sonographer today. He actually had his hand down there covering his jewels! So when the doc came in later to follow up, he asked her to please confirm that it was indeed a boy. We saw the scrotum and penis and then Freddie was finally convinced it was a boy. It seemed like he was a little disappointed. Maybe that's not the right word, but because he so wholeheartedly had believed it was a girl, I think he was taken a little aback. Maybe also deep down he wouldn't have minded a daddy's girl no matter how much stress he'd be under for the next 18 yrs... But I have no doubt he's equally happy to have a boy. He can spar with him, have him take martial arts and play tons of sports...
Now that we know the sex, it seems so much more real now. My belly is definitely growing, my appetite is increasing and I'm reaching the halfway point in two weeks. I'm sure before we know it, Monster Kwan will be here. We stopped by Magic Beans before coming home and checked out strollers just to look. The girl there was very informative and helpful and explained all the different strollers, car seats, etc so we could decide which one we might want. As I was pushing a few of the strollers around to check out the feel, it felt surreal and I couldn't believe I was in that store checking out baby equipment! Life has definitely changed...
