Kalbi Jjim

Ok, so the initial intention of getting this domain was to post my food pictures and detail its recipes as well as document my travels...  Obviously I have failed miserably.  I have all the pics, but have been totally procrastinating about blogging about them all.  I do have a good excuse though!  Pregnancy!  I realized that practically all of my blogs have been about my little monster lately.  I guess that can't be helped since that is what dictates my life these days...  However, I will try to do some catch up slowly in regards to my food pics and recipes...

So yesterday, Monster Kwan was hungry all day long.  He made me eat lunch at noon which is about an hour or two than normal.  I fed him the rice and bulgogi I had packed for lunch from the previous night's dinner and then he went happily to sleep...  Then last night I came home at a decent hour and decided to continue the Korean theme...  This kid is after all half Korean so he needs to know how to take the spices, saltiness and savory aspects of our cuisine!  I had bought some Kalbi over the weekend that was well suited for Jjim...  I did not want to spend hours in the kitchen so I busted out my extra Cuckoo rice cooker.  Now anyone who knows me knows that I am a huge fan of Cuckoo and am on #3 already... =)  This awesome appliance is much more than a rice cooker - it steams, it stews, it makes congee...  You name it, it can probably do it.  I cut up about 2 lbs of of the Kalbi and threw them into the pot...  I threw in two red potatoes that I had cut up into cubes as well as a handful of mini carrots...  I found some leftover mushrooms and onions hubby had chopped up from the night before and threw those in as well.  Then came the ingredients for the sauce: kikkoman soy sauce, sugar, sesame oil, salt, pepper, minced garlic and honey...  I mixed everything together, put the pot in the cooker and pressed cook...  One hour later this is what came about...  The short ribs were falling off the bone and so yummy and tender...
