London Babymoon
So we finally went on our babymoon and as quickly as it began, it came to an end yesterday... We went to London for 5 days and 4 nights and had a fabulous time. We ate and ate and ate... The Indian food was outstanding and a pleasant surprise was the Italian food... I had no idea that it would be so great there, but it was... We did the whole city tour which was informative and also went on a tour to Stonehenge, Windsor Castle and Bath. It was a dreary, drizzling cold day when we went to Stonehenge... It was quite amazing to find the stones there in the middle of nowhere... Bath was an amazing place. The roman baths were impressive, but the city itself was bustling and full of people... Windsor Castle was great to see, but not the highlight of the tour in my opinion. We watched the changing of the guards, walked through the dollhouse and saw all the royalty buried in the chapel...
I was happy to find that the hotel I had chosen was in a great location. The Waldorf had great service and the concierge (which I bugged everyday about one thing or another) was very helpful and pleasant. We were right near alot of the theaters and a 5 minute walk to Covent Garden. 10 minutes further was Leicester Square and then a few more blocks away was Piccadilly Circus... On our first day we checked in and then passed out for the entire afternoon. I know, not a wise use of time while on vacation, but we had taken the red eye in and hadn't slept at all. Plus isn't a vacation a time to catch up on sleep? We got up around evening time and headed out to dinner. We walked around Covent Garden and came across a tapas restaurant and walked in... I was so jealous that Freddie was having Sangria and had to just wet my lips for a taste. All of the tapas we selected were delicious and I ended up ordering seconds of some of them! I guess when you don't drink, you have more space so you can eat more... Beer usually gets me full leading me to eat less... I guess either way I'm doomed with calories!
Day two consisted of the tour to Stonehenge, Windsor Castle and Bath and then day three we met up with Marisa. It was great to see her and catch up. We met up in Leicester Square, had lunch at a pub and did some shopping on Carnaby Street. I found a few pairs of great boots which I couldn't resist buying... But forgot to fill out the form to get my VAT back so I've contributed almost $100 USD to the Londoners... Boo~
Day four we woke up late and made it onto the city tour. It was a cold day... No colder than a typical day in Boston, but I normally don't sit on the top deck of a bus with wind blowing into my face for hours... I didn't want to get off at any stops cuz I was so cold... I took all the pics from the top deck and listened to all of the commentary by the guide who looked like that guy in Kingpin. I can't remember his name, but the one who played the Omish bowler that Woody Harrelson was training... Oh yes, Randy Quaid! Anyway, after the tour we ran into an Indian restaurant for our third Indian meal in as many days... It was SO GOOD. The best of the three we had tried. I am salivating as I type thinking of that meal... We then digested while watching Lion King and was in a serious food coma. The show was as good as I remembered it the first time around and I was again impressed by all of the costumes and puppeteers. We were exhausted after the show so we headed back to our hotel and took a nap... For dinner we went back to the same Italian place we had eaten on day two... I wish I could have gone there one more time cuz there was one more thing on the menu that I had wanted to try: Seafood Risotto. I know it sounds pretty straight forward and mundane, but the picture of it was mouth watering...
It was saddening to know the vacation ended so quickly, but I am so glad that we went... The ride to the airport took half the time expected so I did a little shopping at Heathrow, which was a bonus...
I hope we can squeeze in a few more trips within the mainland before our little monster is here... He's been doing well I think... I feel him every day doing god knows what in there... He wakes me up and keeps me up at night frequently... I believe he will be an active one!!!
