2 Weeks Old~
So Keoni is already two weeks old. It has definitely been a roller coaster. He's a good baby overall... He sleeps, eats, pees, etc. Occasionally he'll be fussy or be very alert and wanna play. We haven't established a routine yet nor do I think we can since he's still so young and unpredictable. I have gotten better at reading his cues, which has helped. I have been getting a little bit more sleep per day. I try to squeeze in an hour here and there during the day if possible, but it's difficult trying to sleep on demand still... Hopefully I'll get better at doing that. I feel like when he's asleep that's my window to do everything I need to - laundry, pumping, clean, etc. It has helped with the nanny since I don't need to worry about cooking at all. She has helped me clean, but there are some things I just need to do myself. Plus I'm glad that she gives him a bath since I don't think I'm ready to do that yet since he's so tiny.
Keoni is now jaundice-free as of yesterday's pedi visit. His last bilirubin check was Friday and it came back at 8, so I was relieved. Also at yesterday's visit his weight was 8 lbs so he's now over his birth weight! I had been worried since he went from 7 lbs 6oz at birth to 6 lbs 7 oz by his first pedi visit. Friday he was at 7 lbs 2 oz so I was happy, but was waiting for it to go above his birth weight. He has a health appetite and going from breastfeeding to pumped breastmilk to formula doesn't seem to bother him. I am feeding him all three to keep up with his daily feedings. I would like to wean him off formula completely soon, but that'll depend on how much I can produce to satisfy him. So far it's been mostly breastmilk whether through breastfeeding or pumping with about 2 formula feedings per day. We'll see how it goes!
It seems like Keoni has been in my life forever already. My day revolves around him and I love him to death. It still amazes me that he is ours and that he's really here. This whole experience is overwhelming in every aspect and I am still getting adjusted to it. To have someone else so completely reliant on me is new and I want to do my best. I am still recovering physically as well. I have to say I don't think I had it as bad as most girls after hearing their experiences. I was up and about a week after birth and was in pain, but manageable pain. It's now been two weeks and of course I am not fully healed, but I am no longer in constant pain and am weaning myself off the pain meds and only taking them if I need to. I've lost about 15 lbs to date and am hoping more comes off in the coming days/weeks. I am definitely dreading the leftover weight that I'll need to work off.
Let's hope breastfeeding helps me in that department!
