4 Weeks
So Keoni is already 4 weeks old! I can't believe how quickly time has gone by. At times it seemed as though time stood still (when he would be screaming his head off), but all in all, the weeks have flown by. He is staying awake longer and seems to be more alert/aware of his surroundings. I am still learning all of his cues, but am getting better. He still lacks a schedule so I am just going with the flow. Every day and night brings new challenges and surprises. I have been surviving on a few hours of sleep and am wondering how long I can continue like this. It is amazing what the mind can make the body do... I surprise myself on how I can keep going for hours on end with no sleep!
So I went back to see my lactation consultant this past week and my heart sank when I put him on the scale. He had lost an entire pound in a week! I had been so excited the week before because he had gained a pound and 2oz, but this week was not good. My LC looked a little worried too when she saw the number on the scale. We weighed him again after I nursed him and he had taken in a little over an ounce. It was disheartening. I thought we were on a roll, but apparently not. She told me to continuously feed him for the next 2-3 days and then to come see her again for another weight check so I am planning to go see her on Friday. I have been trying to nurse him as frequently as possible, but I don't know how much he's actually taking in. This whole BFing deal is so frustrating, tiring and challenging that there are many moments when I just want to give up! I don't know what or how I am continuing, but so far I am still committed. We'll see what his weight is on Friday... I started taking Fenugreek this week too so hopefully that will help increase my supply as well!
