10 Weeks

So we're well on our way to 12 weeks!  I can't believe how quickly time is flying by.  Keoni is growing up day by day and although I might not notice it, I do when we have to buy bigger pampers and he's squirming his way out of his swaddles more easily and the car seat is getting heavier!  Yesterday he weighed almost 11 lbs!  He's been on a roll during the night, sleeping 6-7 hour stretches!  I'm trying to implement a "bedtime" with him and so far it's been working great.  It varies about an hour each night, but once he's in bed before 10, he's golden.  I tried putting him to bed at 8 one night and he still slept 7 hours straight, woke up for his dream feed at 3 and went right back to bed until about 6...  It's great that he's sleeping through the night, but that doesn't mean I get to sleep through as well...  I still have to get up to pump in the middle of the night once or twice.  My body is getting used to it and I just automatically just wake up lately.  Three hours of consecutive sleep seems to be sufficient.  It takes me a while to go back to sleep, but when I do, I usually can get another 2 hours...  It's working now, but we'll see once I go back to work.

Keoni has been more interactive lately as well.  He has been smiling and coos for a few weeks now, but it's more frequent now and it seems that his cognitive and motor skills are developing.  He spends alot of time on his Einstein gym and he loves Mr. Octopus on there...  He touches and grabs at the mobiles and smiles at them.  He is recognizing my voice and follows me with his eyes as well...  It's all exciting for some reason.  I know it's just a normal progression of baby development, but I guess this is what parents thrive on.

Hubs has been enjoying Keoni, but I think is falling victim to lack of sleep.  We both are, but he truly is someone who does not function well on minimal sleep and is a sleeping giant, so the middle of the night duties are a challenge for him.  He still does them, but looks like a walking zombie.  Last night I took care of all the middle of the night duties with Keoni and hubs looked very refreshed this morning and was actually smiling!  Keoni also seems to love peeing only when daddy changes his diaper.  I know it happens to everyone, but it's a frequent occurrence between the two of them!  It's also interesting that I wake up to the first peep out of Keoni through the baby monitor, but hubs doesn't even budge until Keoni is already in a full blown crying state.  I guess this is why I am the mother and he's not?  I have to say hubs does help and is trying.  I have heard of other dads who do nothing - not even changing diapers...  I know he loves Keoni to death and is still learning and adjusting.  I suppose since I stay home with Keoni I know him better and can quickly read his cues.  I hope they both survive and manage well together while I'm in Chicago in two weeks!  I keep thinking about that weekend away...  My first weekend away from my baby!!!
